Puffs Logo
As a leading national brand, Puffs is known for its facial tissues. To make the company look more relatable and friendly, it even invented a whole family of Puffs Pals. These lovable characters have become an integral part of the marketing strategy and usage of the tissues. The company had tissues with moisturizing lotion that provided gentle care for sensitive facial skin. It also has soft lotionless tissues. The brand has a long history of positive relationships with customers and constantly improving its products.
Meaning and History
The Puff brand was born in 1958 when Procter&Gamble acquired the Charmin Paper Company. It soon renamed the Charmin Facial Tissues as Puffs Basic Facial Tissues. In 1987, the company introduced Puffs Plus with Lotion across the whole country. Over the years, the brand has perfected its product and gained wide recognition nationwide.
What is Puffs?
Puffs are facial tissues that are marketed as a stronger and softer alternative for everyday needs. Puffs is a P&G brand that is manufactured in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
1959 – 1965
The original logo looks very elegant and light, just like the soft tissues that P&G introduced to the market. It consists of only the brand name, taking any distractions away. The designers went for a decorative, stylish cursive font with beautiful stroke contrast and all interconnected characters. The color choice, a grayish black, is also classic.
1965 – 1980
A bold red rectangular base was introduced relatively soon. It is meant to attract more attention to the brand. The white color of the inscription and straight, clean strokes added a touch of perfection. It was the logo of a brand that wanted to conquer the market and be a leader.
1980 – 1990
The update in 1980 has not changed much in the logo. The font has been modified, but mainly this touched the thickness of the strokes. The designers were able to preserve a recognizable brand image while making the brand name stand out more on a bold background.
1990 – 2000
A black inscription with a white background was brought back. To keep the consumer base gained over the years, the designers chose to use a font that resembled the one used earlier. They added more elegant curves and serifs, which reminded of the sophisticated look of the original version. There was a nice balance between a strong and stable brand and the tender touch of the tissues it was making.
2000 – 2001
The company brought back the logo version from the 1980s adding a modern touch. The latter consisted of a white outline followed by a shadow that added depth to the emblem. It was also the first time that the brand had a blue-and-white color palette.
2001 – 2005
This logo marked a new era for the brand image. It was the time when the company introduced rounded, soft curves. In this case, it is an oval-like base with swoosh lines that as if envelope the inscription. This logo makes one feel comfortable and relaxed.
2005 – 2012
A lighter, sky-blue logo was designed in 2005. It looks as soft and tender as the cloud. At the same time, the logo has movement and depth and evokes positive and content emotions. A rounded, sans-serif font with a shadow that adds depth contributes to such an impression. This version was designed by Landor Associates designer Ian Brignell.
2012 – 2020
Among all the previous versions, this one is probably the most dreamy and blissful. It has a light blue and white flower as a base with the brand name added in darker blue on top. The font has also been modified to use stylish curves inspired by the original version in combination with the earlier fonts.
2020 – Today
The flower acquired a much more minimalistic appearance. In fact, it looks more like a cloud. The shape is meant to create an association with soft and light clouds and the tender touch of the Puffs tissues. Just like in the previous cases, the font for the name underwent only slight modification. This allowed the logo to stay recognizable. It showed that the brand is consistent with its values simply making its product better and more suitable for the needs of its consumers.
Font and Color
The original logo featured a classic black color. It was later replaced by a red-and-white color palette. The emblem looks bold and memorable. The red creates a very powerful image. Later, the company replaced it with a more relaxing and soft one. It looks more appropriate for a brand that promotes tender care.
With the exception of the original logo, the company has been pretty consistent when it comes to the font. It has been only slightly modified to meet the overall concept. The original choice looked like a fancier version of the StephanieScript font. The next font is also custom and resembles Tweedle Regular font. It was further slightly redrawn in the 80s. Later, the company transitioned to more rounded font choices. These custom inscriptions were meant to reflect the softness and tender care that Puffs tissues provide.
