Meaning and history
Venom burst onto the scene in 1984 as a living alien costume in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #252, and fully emerged as the character Venom in 1988 within the pages of “The Amazing Spider-Man” #300. Initially, the symbiote fused with Spider-Man, but the hero later rejected it. Betrayed, the symbiote found a new host in Eddie Brock, creating the formidable Venom. Over time, Venom has transitioned from a sheer villain to a complex antihero and occasionally a guardian. A pivotal year was 1993 when the “Venom: Lethal Protector” series recast him as an antihero. In 2018, Venom starred in his first solo movie, cementing his place in popular culture.
