Formed in 2021, the Birmingham Stallions, under coach Skip Holtz, were champions of the USFL for two consecutive seasons, which merged with the XLF at the end of 2023 to form the new American Football League, the UFL.
Meaning and history
After the failed starts of the AAF, USFL, and XFL soccer leagues, it was decided to stop duplicating each other and create a common professional spring league, the United Football League, based on 4 USFL teams and 4 XFL teams. One of the four teams that joined the UFL as representatives of the USFL was the Birmingham Stallions, who have won the league championship twice since its inception in 2021.
The young team’s primary colors are crimson, gold, and white. The home field is Protective Stadium – the University of Alabama at Birmingham (ACC Conference) student-athlete stadium – which seats 47,100. And the Birmingham Stallions head coach is Skip Holtz, who is the only coach among all franchises to be with the same team for three consecutive seasons.

Birmingham Stallions is the name of a young professional football club from Birmingham, Alabama, established in 2021, and playing in the United Football League, which started operating in 2024. The new United Football League professional league, founded on December 31, 2023, is the brainchild of the merger of two other spring leagues, the XLF and USFL.
