Meaning and History

Fresca Logo history

Fresca was released to the market back in 1966. Over the years, the brand had to navigate new regulations in the food industry and raise consumer awareness about health in general. It managed to preserve the beloved taste and get more loyal fans along the way. The brand name itself evoked images of sophistication, elegance, and a touch of global flare, tapping into the interest in foreign countries at the time. By selecting a name that was derived from the Italian and Spanish words for “fresh,” The Coca-Cola Company established a distinctive, appealing brand identity. Moreover, the name evoked a sense of cleanliness and purity, valued at any time.

What is Fresca?
Fresca is a beverage brand of the Coca-Cola Company. Refreshing on a hot summer day, it has a subtle citrus flavor. The brand showed a dedication to the safety and well-being of its customers by rising to the obstacles it faced.

1964 – 1970

The original logo was clean and refreshing, which is exactly what the brand wanted its customers to feel. At the same time, the strokes are not perfectly straight. Instead, they have a hand-drawn and relaxing effect. All caps and deep grassy green color, which looks uneven and natural, allow the logo to stand out and look solid despite its simplicity.

1970 – 1975

Images of sun-drenched Mediterranean terraces, green palm trees, and sparkling blue water instantly come to mind when looking at this logo. The font was changed to one that features even, straight strokes. At the same time, it did not lose its simplicity. Moreover, uneven baseline and alternating sky blue and bright green colors reflect a joyful and refreshing. The swirl to the left of the brand name surely makes one want to quench a thirst with a sugar-free drink.

1975 – 1980

The company returned to a minimalistic design and even brought back the deep green color. It kept the sans-serif font with straight stroke ends and smooth curves. The inscription is placed on a straight baseline for a professional and refined impression.

1980 – 1986

This version looks fresh and bright. The addition of a yellow to the color palette created a more outgoing and youthful appearance. The company also updated the font, which made the inscription look more stylish. The name is framed at the top and the bottom with light green thick lines and an extra yellow line right under “Freska”. The whole logo is set on a diagonal, which gives the logo a feeling of movement and energy that it would otherwise lack.

1986 – 1988

A black-and-white color palette almost made the brand lose its identity. To prevent this in some way, the designers used a familiar font and also set the name on a diagonal. The name here is accompanied by the phrase “Enjoy” and the tagline “Natural Grapefruit Flavor”. Given the relatively short period during which the logo was used, it was not very approved by the customers.

1988 – 1996

A completely different logo style was presented in 1988. First of all, the company introduced a dark blue gradient, which was accented by a golden shadow slightly indented away from the letters. This created a majestic and elegant brand image and marked a new era for the Freska brand.

1996 – 2005

The company continued to use a serif font, but this version features more refined serifs. The inscription is set in all caps of the same size and printed in white with a yellow shadow. A rectangular teal base brings to mind thoughts of calm oceans and bright skies as it combines green and blue colors.

2005 – 2018

The Freska brand clearly tried to stay on top by adjusting its logo to market preferences. A black inscription with small teal dashes on either side looks sophisticated and modern. The designer used a sans-serif font that successfully combined diagonal and straight cuts with rounded joints. This version stayed with the company for almost fifteen years.

2018 – Today

Fresca Logo

This logo has more in common with earlier logo versions, largely thanks to the use of a blue teal color for the name. The only embellishment here is a thin sky-blue line that creates an illusion of a shadow. A unique feature in this logo is a curved baseline while the cap line is kept straight. This gives the logo an illusion of depth and movement. The design turned out classy and refined.

Font and Color

Fresca Emblem

For the first two decades, different shades of green served as the main color for the Freska logo. It created an association with something fresh and healthy. The company also used sky blue and yellow as accents, giving the logo lighter and happier notes. There was a short period in the late 80s when the company tried a monochrome black logo. It brought the black back in the early 2000s and accented it with teal for a grand look. The teal color was successfully used in several logos, combining the properties of green and blue.

The first logo looked like a neat handwritten inscription, similar to the Tamarind Days font by Khurasan-Syaf Rizal, that looked welcoming and friendly. Later, it moved to a sans-serif, rounded font that resembles the Ganges Demi Bold font. In 1980, the company introduced another sans-serif font with bold, straight strokes. It looked like Europa Grotesk SH Bold Italic by Scangraphic Digital Type Collection. For some period, the logo featured a more sophisticated serif font similar to Adorn Engraved Expanded by Laura Worthington. Another logo version used a more rounded version of a font similar to Racon-Old Basic by Ahmet Altun or Revx Neue Medium by OneSevenPointFive. The latest logo features a custom font that appears like a modified Metafora or Octagen Condensed font.
