Metamask is the name of a cryptocurrency wallet, developed in 2016 by ConsenSys. It is an OTC crypto wallet that allows you to receive, store and send cryptocurrency assets. Metamask wallet exists as an extension for Google Chrome browsers and smartphone applications.
Meaning and history
Crypto Wallet MetaMask belongs to the category of browser applications. The plugin is compatible with Chrome, Opera, Firefox, and Brave web browsers. It allows working with any tokens running on the Ethereum blockchain, as well as accessing decentralized exchanges, betting at online casinos, and using other decentralized applications running in the Ethereum ecosystem.
Today Metamask has more than 10 million users worldwide. The wallet has earned the attention of the audience because of the rapid development of the DeFi sphere, as it is one of the most convenient and versatile tools for accessing decentralized applications.
All transactions and all wallet balances are stored in the blockchain, and private key holders have the right to access them. MetaMask generates passwords and keys directly on the device, so only the owner has access to his funds and sensitive information. In addition, the wallet allows interaction with other blockchain applications, such as the Compound credit pool or the Uniswap crypto-exchange.
Metamask was originally developed for the Ethereum network and tokens issued in its standard – ERC-20, but it also supports work in all networks which are compatible with the virtual machine of the Ethereum network (EVM). That is, you can add networks of different standards to Metamask, such as Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network, after adding this network to the wallet address you can transfer all the tokens issued in the BEP-20 standard.
What is Metamask?
Metamask is a decentralized wallet for Ethereum and ERC20 tokens, presented as a browser extension. The wallet allows the user to send, receive and exchange cryptocurrency with full control of their keys.
In terms of visual identity, Metamask has one of the most memorable and well-known logos of all cryptocurrency wallets. The famous three-dimensional pixel fox is very well recognized all over the globe. Usually, the graphical part is used independently, but sometimes it is followed by a simple yet modern logotype in white or black, depending on the background.
2016 – Today
The Metamask logo is Fox’s head. But not a simple drawing. It is a voluminous three-dimensional image, and the head of the animal can sometimes be turned to the left or the right, without losing its recognizability. The fox is executed in the standard for itself colors — orange and white, with small black details on the nose and eyes, and brownish ears. The image is all formed by triangular and rectangular figures in different shades of orange, and this is what makes it look super progressive and cool. As for the logotype, it is not always used with the emblem, but when it is — the name of the wallet is written in white or black capitals of a strict sans-serif typeface with straight lines and cuts.
Font and color
The Metamask uppercase logotype is set in a modern yet very simple sans-serif font with sharp cuts and straight clean lines of the letters. Another important thing about the inscription is a lot of air in and between the letters. The font, closest to the one used for the Metamask wordmark is, probably, OCR B Std Regular, or Inclination Mono Medium.
As for the color palette of the Metamask visual identity, it is all about shades of orange and brown, with only small elements in white and black, which are balanced by the logotype, and the background on the badge is set on. Orange is a color of energy and motion, it is also associated with passion and happiness.
