The newly established platform adopted the Windows wave-inspired flag symbol as its emblem. It featured a light blue hue with a radial gradient fading to white. Positioned to the right were the words “Windows Azure,” and they appeared closely connected. The font used was a black, circular sans-serif style consistent with other Microsoft services.
2011 – 2012
The logo for the cloud computing service adhered to the style of its parent company—precise, pragmatic, devoid of superfluous embellishments. The sole element featured the corporate flag, composed of a window divided into four compartments. Its distinguishing characteristic was the wavy design with undulating edges. The rectangles on the left side curved upward, while those on the right curved downward, producing a “wave” effect. The icon sported a sky blue color, while the accompanying text was rendered in black. Designers opted for a sleek and refined sans-serif font for the text.
2012 – 2014
In 2012, the logo underwent a modernization process. Designers transformed the flag into a three-dimensional representation, shaping it into a four-trapezoidal window. The iconic light blue color remained unchanged; however, it now adorned the lettering instead. Simultaneously, there was a slight increase in the spacing between the words.
2014 – 2017
With the rebranding to Microsoft Azure, the iconic checkbox symbol that was synonymous with Windows disappeared. What remained was the name, rendered in the familiar blue hue, using the traditional grotesque font.
2017 – 2018
In 2017, Microsoft Azure introduced a revised logo, featuring two asymmetric shapes. On the right side, the platform’s name was abbreviated to “Azure,” with a significantly darker color palette compared to previous iterations.
The Microsoft Azure logo comprises two intricate polygons, bearing a resemblance to Microsoft Office icons in terms of design. The graphic element vaguely resembles the letter “A,” although it’s often perceived as an abstract and unconventional shape.
Typography for the word “Azure” adheres to Microsoft’s visual identity, utilizing the Segoe typeface. Segoe, developed in 1975 and owned by Monotype Imaging Corporation, bears similarities to fonts like Adria Grotesk Light, Mr Eaves XL Modern Regular, and Quiet Sans Light. The present iteration features a distinct logo comprised of a trademarked window constructed from a combination of differently colored squares. Additionally, the accompanying text has undergone a transformation. Instead of the previous elongated black lettering, it now employs squat gray characters for a fresh and modern look.

The refreshed logo takes on the form of a broad azure triangular ribbon, showcasing the adaptability of the software to meet customer requirements. One side remains straight while the other curves inward, creating a visual resemblance to the letter “A” in the word “Azure,” effectively serving as its crossbar. This design choice underscores Microsoft’s alignment with the Fluent Design System service. The logo features rounded corners and a dark blue interior, while the outer portions are in blue. At the logo’s center, a tall white triangle forms by connecting the three edges of the ribbon-like shape, creating a distinctive and modern visual identity.
