The company now known as Ricola produces and sells drops against cough and mints for breath. Ricola was established in the year 1930 by Emil Wilhelm Richterich and Daniel Ruoss in Switzerland, Laufen, Basel-Country. Today, the Ricola cough drops are marketed in many countries of the world.
Meaning and History
At the start, Ricola was called after its founder and location – Confiseriefabrik Richterich & Co. Laufen. It focused on the caramel sweets. That time, Emil Richterich bought a small bakery in Laufen. Soon after, in the year 1967, the company was renamed as Richterich & Compagnie Laufen – short, Ricola.

1967 – Today
When the company was a small local bakery, there was no need for branding. As the time passed and this bakery grew, it became clear that the company need some brand identity. So, the company’s visual identity appeared with a change of name in 1967.
The current Brand logo depicts the bold dark green-colored inscription of the handwritten font, with all letters connected to each other. It may be also said that the initial character ‘R’ has a custom form, unsimilar to other fonts.
Emblem and Symbol
The Ricola logotype is easy to use on various backgrounds, as its color can be quickly changed according to the colors of the place. For example, you can find the blue, red or black colored inscription on some packs. Due to the font, the inscription looks friendly every time.
