Etsy is an e-commerce platform, which was built specifically to help creative people sell their own products. Most of the merchants present on Etsy are handcrafters who sell goods made by themselves as well as rare items.
Meaning and history
The selling platform was created by photographer and artist Rob Kalinu in 2005. The idea of creating a website for selling things came to him suddenly when he was waiting for the arrival of friends. The name for the future company was also not long in coming. “Etsy” comes from the Italian “eh, si” which means “oh yes” in translation. Robert, being a lover of Italian films, drew attention to this speech turn and, having slightly distorted it, received the necessary meaningless word.
What is Etsy?
Etsy is an online marketplace that connects independent sellers with buyers looking for unique, handmade, and vintage items. It provides a platform for artisans, crafters, and vintage collectors to showcase and sell their products to a global audience.
2005 – Today
The company logo is the brand name in block letters on a minimalist white background. The color of the logo is bright orange, which was not chosen by chance either. When Robert Kalin was developing the idea of his internet store, he was sitting in an orange chair and found it symbolic to use this color for the logo of the future site. In general, the logo looks very presentable and businesslike, although the bright orange color adds more lightness and a cheerful mood.
