Before 2014
The inaugural emblem for the university was unveiled shortly after its establishment and remained in use until 2014. This emblem was primarily characterized by a shield ornamented with verbal annotations positioned above and below it. The shield, set against a gradient yellow backdrop, illustrated a phoenix undergoing rejuvenation amidst the embers, symbolized by red flames, likely representing BUAP’s evolutionary phases and continuous renewal.
Interestingly, the flames appear to have a more dimensional and vivid depiction compared to the phoenix, which seems to overlay the shield. Above this symbolic shield are curved, green banners intertwined with an illustration of Athena, a revered figure in Greek mythology embodying wisdom and enlightenment. She is portrayed armored with a helmet and appears to wield a shield.
Regarding the textual elements within the emblem, they maintain a cohesive aesthetic throughout. The term “Benemerita” is situated above, whereas “Universidad Av Tonoma De Puebla” finds its place below the symbolic imagery. The former is notably more prominent, utilizing a sophisticated, serif font. The lettering employs a mix of black and red, with the words in the lower annotation being separated by dots. This convergence of symbolic imagery and text creates a nuanced representation of the university’s legacy and its unwavering pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment, reflecting its transformative journey and commitment to academic excellence and wisdom.
2014 – Today
The 2014 revamp ushered in a streamlined and refined logo for the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, especially discernible in the color scheme’s transformation. The original myriad of colors gave way to a singular, striking shade of blue, exuding modernity and sophistication and fostering a sense of assurance amongst the university’s prospective students and its academic community.
The foundational element of the university’s insignia is an emblem, enveloped within a circular structure featuring a dual boundary. Notably, the perimeter is delineated not by a continuous line but by spaced, rounded dots. Within this structured boundary resides the textual depiction, “Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla,” transcribed in a contemporary sans-serif typeface, substituting the prior font. This alteration imparts a degree of elegance and assertiveness to the uppercase letters due to the refined strokes.
The inscriptions maintain their original essence but exhibit enhanced precision and detailing. For instance, the phoenix assumes a pivotal role on the shield, its representation imbued with increased assertiveness. Athena, too, gains prominence within the emblem, with even subtle details like strands of hair visible beneath her helmet. The ribbons, initially rendered in green, are now strategically placed atop and beneath the emblem. Additionally, the shield is underscored by horizontal striations spanning its entire breadth, adding to the detail and modern aesthetic of the revamped design, reflecting a contemporary ethos while maintaining its revered symbolism.
