Ralph Lauren is a New York-headquartered fashion house, founded in 1967. It manufactures and sells various products in four main groups: apparel, bedding products, accessories, and fragrances. These include the products available for mid-level audiences and luxury dresses, distributed in various collections. Since its foundation, the company has opened around 500 locations in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Meaning and history

The company appeared in 1967 thanks to Ralph Lauren a fashion designer and a bright member of the Jewish community of Bronx, New York. Lauren started with ‘Polo’ the full male dress collection of flannel suits and dress shirts, inspired by the sports atmosphere. It got a huge initial success and brought the brand to light.

During the 70s, it secured its positions in the United States, presenting new collections and expanding its number of locations and audience. In 1971, it opened the first boutique inside one of the stores of Bloomingdale’s a luxury chain in NYC. Later it was accompanied by separate shops in various cities in the US. In the same 1971, Ralph Lauren introduced its premier female collection, made on the basis of the men’s line.

The first Ralph Lauren European location opened its doors in London, in 1981. It was followed by one more event the introduction of the Home collection, another group of the company’s products, including bedding apparel, rugs, and decor. Lauren opened the largest retail store of his fashion house in Rhinelander estate on Madison Avenue and 72nd Street in New York City in 1986. The next prominent occasion happened in 1996, when Lauren listed his company on NY Stock Exchange, thereby making it public.

During the last 20 years, the brand was focused on the creation of a community around it through various sponsorship and partnership activities with medical centers and sports teams. In doing so, the company opened the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care in NYC in 2003.
